About T.C. TERAPIA S.C.
T.C. TERAPIA S.C. was established in 1921 as a small laboratory. Today TARAPIA became a trade mark recording constant growth and profitability.
TERAPIA S.C. became a Stock Company in 1991.
49% of the capital was mass privatized, the rest of 51% being purchased by the PAS Employee Association together with ROMFERCHIM Ltd. from the State Property Fond.
Beginning with the first of April 1997 the stocks of TERAPIA S.C. were quoted as first category stocks at the Bucharest stock market. As a result, different investment funds started to buy and sell the companies stocks. By 2001-2002 these investment funds held the majority of stocks and started as so reorganizing the company, resulting in a 40% cut of personnel.
In 2003, 90% of T.C. TERAPIA S.C. stocks were taken over by an American investment fund named Advent.
The most important objectives of this stage were:
- The shutting down and demolition of all unproductive synthesis sections.
- Cleaning the terrain on which the chemical organic synthesis sections were placed.
- Orientation towards conditioning medicine using active substances which were imported
- Development of the sales department.
- Research through bioequivalence tests.
- Construction of a new ecological waste deposit hall.
Protection of the environment represents a constant concern of the company.
In June 2006 Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. announced that Ranbaxy Netherlands BV acquired 97.6% of the Romanian company´s stocks from Advent for the sum of 324 million US Dollars. This is the first time since T.C. TERAPIA S.C. was privatized, when the buyer a pharmaceutical company is, which is interested in transforming the facility from Cluj-Napoca in the 3rd biggest RANBAXY global operational center (the first two being in India and the USA).
The combined operations of RANBAXY and TERAPIA led to the establishment of the biggest genetic company from Romania.
From 2006 to 2007 we witnessed a brand changing and integration in the multinational company period.
During this process the juridical name of the company remained the same, T.C. TERAPIA S.C., only the commercial appellation changed to TERAPIA RANBAXY.
